Bree is still losing weight....she was limping on Wednesday but I couldn't see anything wrong with her paw but when she got up Thursday it was very swollen so we headed to the vets, he said looked like a puncture wound that infected, but the worrisome part was when we weighed her. In January before starting thyroid meds she weighed 99 pounds (too much) and after a few weeks on meds she was down to 86 pounds which I thought was a good weight for her. A few weeks ago I notiiced her collar was getting very loose so I asked to have her levels checked thought maybe she needed her meds adjusted and she was down to 78 pounds which she hasn't weighed since she was less than a year old. They said her levels were good....but yesterday she was down to 69 pounds which is what she weighed at 7 months old. They sent me home with some puppy food to add to her kibble. I will give it a couple of weeks and re- weigh her. Now she is very active keeping up with Dellon but 69 is not very much for her to weigh although her ribs aren't showing or anything, but dam she can't keep losing. Anyone ever run into something like this before?

If her rips don't show and she is active and happy, then i would think she is doing just fine. But keep a eye on her, did you checked her fecal for parasites and worms ?

Tina I was sitting here this morning thinking that when I take her back to weigh her again I will take along a poop sample with me.

You can also feed her Satin Balls to help keep the weight on her, if not encourage her to gain a few pounds too. But I agree with checking for parasites. She has lost weight fairly fast.

Sharon, I would want not only an hc/tp but a full blood chemistry run on her - I don't like the sounds of this - that is too much weight loss consistently since January - that is 1/3 of her total weight lost and IMHO that is too much even with Thyroid.
Is she jaundiced at all - I would not let this slide - the place to start is a full blood panel

Well again Gail saved me some typing and I agree with what she has said. I am worried about how fast she has lost this weight, please keep us posted.

I, too, am concerned with the rate at which she is losing this weight. I don't think it is too thin, though, as long as no ribs or other spinal bones are showing. We know she was a bit 'chunky' before, but I would think all the exercise would add more muscle mass to her at this point. Hmmmmm I have to echo Gail's suggestion on the full blood panel, just in case... If they are only testing for one aspect of her thyroid levels, the others could be out of whack, thus requiring a change in her meds. Keep us posted, Sharon!!!

Bree: I ditto Gail's reply and agree with her feelings. Its alot of weight for her to lose and there is a reason... The swollen foot issue? is it resolved? Did she step on something or get bitten? I also ditto Shadow's question about her appetite? is it the same as always? Are her eating habits different since the medication? The consideration is if she is on too much thyroid or if its something else and the thyroid med's being too large of a dose. Good positive thoughts and healthy images are being sent your way... belief in a simple solution to a simple issue is also being sent your way! Keep the group posted? Diva

Okay we went back to vets today to have foot rechecked and I was going to ask for a full panel of thyroid tests and CBC. I asked if I could weigh her even if it had only been a few days just to see if there was any more loss. Well the tech and I are busy looking at the weight up top when we hear her foot slide off the scale and hit the floor....and when we put her foot back up she weighed 75.6 pounds I didn't ask for the tests after she was weighed cause I don't think that is a bad weight. She must have slid her foot off the scale last time and nobody noticed. Lesson learned here is rather than worry myself sick the next time I will watch her feet or re weigh her!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the false alarm and thanks for all the concern
