Pedigree Replaced as main Westminster Sponsor After 24 Years ?
Apparently many viewers of the Westminster Kennel Club dogs show on TV felt that the Pedigree Pet Adoption ads/commercials were not what they wanted to see when they were all excited rooting for their favorite breed showing at the most prestigeous dog show in the USA - Westminister asked Pedigree several times to reconsider their add content, Pedigree ignored their several requests, so the show has gone with a different sponsor this year, Purina.
He added: “Our show is a celebration of dogs. We’re not promoting purebreds at the expense of non-purebreds. We celebrate all dogs,” he said. “When we’re seeing puppies behind bars, it takes away from that. Not just because it’s sad, but it’s not our message.”

Now I am all for adoption and saving dogs, I support it 100% - but I have to tell you those 3 hanky commercials that break your heart, make you cry and are supposed to make you pick up the telephone and send who ever is asking the money (donation) to save these poor sad animals is getting on my nerves - not the plight of the dogs - but the blatent manipulation of my emotions to get me to send money - money that we now know does not really reach those poor aniimals paraded before our eyes in the commercials!!! Rather we are finding that the majority of donations go to run the bloated fund raising activities, salaries and administrative operating expenses.
I would much rather there be more positive adoption ads success stories showing just how my donations will SAVE these animals - I don't need these horrific photos shoved in my face - frankly its a huge turn off. I am getting just as tired of the FB posts Announcing “DIES TOMORROW!!!!!!!!” over and over - it just makes me want to "tune it out". Sorry It turns me off. It creates great anxiety in me as I worry about THOSE animals in the photos it just makes me feel sad and helpless.
As TV commercials go, I never thought the Pedigree adoption ads narrated by David Duchovny were as depressing as the HSUS ones wiith that so sad Sara McGlauchlin song - but I do see the Dog Shows point.
Have you seen the Pedigree shelter dog commercials? If so, what do you think, should Pedigree haven listened? or do you think their sponsorship entitled them to run what ever ad content they wanted?
So what are your thoughts?
