I was wondering what you think of the delutes or albino or Z dobermans. I was thinking of adding another dog since we are considering putting my old 9 yr old down due to hip problems. How much coat and health problems do they really have? My dogs are black and never had one but thinking about it sometime soon. I can't bring myself to put our old girl down but I think it is getting to be time.

Your youngest is 6 months old, let that pup have a puppy-hood as a only pup for a while. The best age to bring in another youngster is about 14-18 months old. Know what you are looking for in temperament and go about looking for a decent breeder who health tests and has an avid interest in producing pups for the right reasons. These breeders are few and far between and have waiting lists for a reason. zlist, white dobermanns and dilutes are fine from a rescue but dont go out of your way to buy one as a puppy, they can come with a whole load of other health problems which can be avoided.

Start a thread under an appropriate title and the entire membership can learn from it. Instead of on an Intro thread. Von.

Sorry to hear the news on the old girl, it is always so hard. I have to agree with Georgie, please do not support the breeders/greeders of the z factor/albino. A rescue is definetly the answer if that is your choice in Dobermanns.

Here in the US the dilutes are not a disqualification according to the DPCA standard so there is nothing wrong with a dilute. There can be some coat problems with some of them but not all of them. I have found there to be no difference in temperament nor character associated with any of the four colors - I've had all 4 colors and they have all been 100% dobermans.
Whites are not accepted by any kennel club of any nation except the AKC - they are not accepted by the DPCA - I would avoid a white dobe even as a rescue. With an Albino/white doberman you will have some skin issues, allergies, light sensitivity that can be alot more to deal with than just a thin coat on a blue dog.
It depends on your older dog - and whether she is used to doggie companionship or not - if she is used to having doggie friends - a puppy can be a new lease on life and give them a new lease on life - however if your older dog is in pain and does not care about doggie friends - the kindest thing IMHO would be to allow her to enjoy as good a quality as she can in her remaining days without having to put up with a pesky puppy.
