BRAVO Von! I may only disagree about coats If temperature drops to -30C here my dogs need coats or they don't go for a walk at all what is not the best alternative.

Well if the shoe fits - then I will wear it - Von everyone is entitled to their opinion - and certainly anyone with as much time and experience in this breed as you have - I have a healthy respect for your point of view - but I am sorry your point of view is not the only valid one - LOOKS are important to everyone, just ask any man which woman he is attracted to - the one with the big boobs and the long legs or the short, one with the great personality LMAO - whether you are attracted to tall dark and handsome or short, fat and bald - appearance is a big component of why each and everyone of us is attracted to or drawn to any purebred dog.
To say that it is all about the character and it does not matter what the dog looks like - whether he is cropped or docked - then why not just get a GSD or a Mal, they are not cropped and docked and God knows you will have the character you want in spades.
Real breeders - who are breeding for tomorrow as well as today - breed for the whole dog, that means it must look like what the standard calls for - if the DPCA changes the standard of this BREED so that it changes the LOOK that drew me to this breed in the first place - I do have my doubts on whether I would continue to breed dobermans - so call me any name you want - but I want what I want - and I want a dog that looks like a cropped and docked dobeman. Its not only whats on the inside that counts, its not only the character - if you wrap that character up in a dog that looks like weimeraner - thats not good enough for me -
I do not want to be forced to live with a short bald man - just cause he has a head, 2 arms, 2 legs and a penis - just cause he is a man does not make him attractive to me - yes I know he probably has a heart of gold and makes a million dollars a year - but he will never make my heart flutter and my body tingle all over - its the laws of attraction pure and simple -
I mean this as no insult to anyone with natural dobes - what ever floats your boat - but please do not be so condescending as to castigate me because a big part of the reason I chose this breed was HOW IT LOOKED!!!

Very well said Gail!!! Herr Dobermann regardless of what the reason was showed his dogs as cropped and docked It is a big part of the breed and if it was done to present an intimidating look then good.
I think any time we say one part of the standard is not important we put the entire standard and breed at risk.

We need to put the blame for this where it belongs - on the governments!! It was through legislation that this all started. The Green Party was influenced by the likes of HSUS and PETA organizations to push through their Animal Rights agenda.
The AKC, breed clubs and others fight this daily here in the US. There is a campaign going on in Canada right now not to allow this to happen to them.
It is HERE folks!!! You need to be vigilant and be extremely careful what organizations you are supporting. When the HSUS/PETA are not able to change things on a national level they go to the states. And then if that doesn't work they go to the local cities and municipalities. They have won in Europe and will push til they win here. They just don't give up and they have the budget to keep at it, thanks to people just like you!
This is what the Animal Rights people are all about!
