I am in an indepth conversation with a friend of mine over this.. part of my reply to her today. This is the fun thing. There is a chap who introduced the C189G Gene in to Boxers, he crossed in a Corgie and kept the most Boxer like bitch with a bob tail, kept breeding back and back to Boxers but keeping the bob trait.. 5 generations down the KC had allowed him to re-registers the pups and now they are considered Boxers in every way possible. In this particular case the C189G Gene is dominant, in most of his litters it was a 50/50 split on what had the bob and what had the normal tail. He has bred NBTs x NBTs with litters resulting in normal tails and bobs born.. but more importantly.. they lived. It was just the tail and nothing else. ( www.steynmere.com/GENETICS.html ) It all depends on whether this particular mutation is going to be dominant or recessive, I would imaging it will be recessive which yes means going in close.. however the dogs i have found with a NBT there is nothing simlar close up.. but 2 generations back is where similarities come in. This dog, Jivago vh Wantij is a dog i am seeing in 2 pedigrees of the dogs i have found.. SO FAR with a bob. Another dog with a bob has his sire Graaf Quirinus V Neerlands Stam in it.. and that litter had 3 crosses to him. (is it wrong that i just let out a squeel of delight which is related to an epiphany.. there IS what looks like a link!!) The dog 3 times bred on Graaf Quirinus V Neerlands Stam is a male, he has a brother with a NBT.. (dog in question - www.petremmas.com/THATOINDEX.html ) I wonder if he is a "carrier" for this based on it.. he was a litter of 4, 3 normals and 1 NBT. *NOTE - Corrected hyper-links

Great reasearch Georgie!
Dede does your NBT have Jivago or Graaf? in the ped?
Very interesting - especially that NBT bred to NBT could then produce all natural tails - that to me is very interesting

Ok, not that I have much knowledge on this, but ~~~ I think it could go both ways. Having the naturally bobbed tail would save us alot of hassle, but seeing that recent UK program on the problem with purebreds brings to mind the Pug. We all see this cute little dog with the curly tail and since that little tail is a focus of the breeders ( or some ) there has been so much breeding for a short curly tail that the pug is starting to show alot of spinal deformaties.
So, with that in mind, if we start breeding for a NBT, is it gonna come to the point down the line where that might start becoming an issue for our breed?? Keep breeding again and again for a NBT to the point that its messing with a dog that has spine issues like Wobblers?
Just thinking far down the line...food for thought.

I have uploaded an 8 gen pedigree of my recent litter for comparison... www.dourdenkennel.com/files/F%20Litter/FLitterPed.htmlYes, we have Jivago as well as Graaf Quirinius in our pedigrees. I may hve some of the names slightly mis-spelled, or some of the titles not quite correct. I'm reinputting a lot of lost data due to 2 computer crashes recently, but, you can get the idea on this...

Graff is Jivago's papa, so you have to have both don't ya know. I was looking for von Cosacks Pudgie v.t. Pendragon of DoUrden but can't find him, why? Von
