No that is not correct - 2 of the original 7 sires may have died of probable DCM - not 5.
And yes DCM was around before Parvo - but tremendous increase of DCM cases after the development of the Parvo vaccine does call into question whether the increase and high prevalence of it in our breed does can be linked to the contaminated Parvo Vaccine.
That is the issue

I don't believe that with Dobes it is a cause, maybe other breeds. Petey's cardiologist said is was in his genes and no matter what we did or didn't do it was going to come out and kill his heart. DCM in Dobes kills them much quicker then in most other breeds. HATE DCM.

I wonder also if it became more prevalent because people started to become more aware and it just coinsided with the introduction of parvo into our country?? We might never know unless they find a direct link. It oculd also be that the parvo vaccine speeds up the appearance or manifestation of DCM. Just some thoughts but we all know that medications can affect the heart = is it because the vaccine speeds up the manifestation or DCM or that it triggers it? Seems the more we know the less answers we have or the more questions we have. I do think we have to look at everything and test as many theroies as possible til we find absolute answers. Good info to think about Trinity!!!

I think we have to use a little caution as Gail says. There are a ton of articles out there and we can't read one article and throw everything out the window. I have to agree that is a dangerous approach and one I am not willing to take with the lives of puppies. I persoanlly would never read one article and jump off the deep end. It take years of study and research to know which way to jump. Do I believe over vaccination is a problem absolutely and it is why from the beginning I have not ever given annual revaccinations unless required by law. The titers is a good tool to help us make the best decision. If y9ou keep your dog at home and never attend shows, public areas etc then you might be completely safe and able to not vaccinate but if you go out in public I would use a little caution. The problem with science is that there are several theories for everything and then 10 years later they are proven wrong. What do you do then if you have lost all the dogs to disease that could have been prevented? We have examples of times when people stopped vaccinations for certain things and then there is another outbreak so vaccines do help and have their place.
