We have finally arrived back home from our trip to Hungary for the 2011 IDC World Championship..It has been a long & tiring week of flying and driving for long hours on the continent but it was well worth it.
As previously promised i will try to post photos and my experiences on this thread.
(For those who dont know) IDC is the biggest speciality show on the calendar for the dobermann breed, attracting hundreds of entries from all over the world (this year there was 666 entries)
We first took a 2.5 hour flight to Serbia to pick up our rented car, then drove almost 400 Km's to Hungary where the event took place...We then drove back to Serbia on Monday morning and spend the next three days there before flying back home late last night.
I had the chance of meeting some great breeders/handlers/trainers and dogs i normally would only know from the net.
I have over 2000 frames of photos, but since there are so many posted on the net (which i will give links below) i will post only Nika's photos and my favorite ones of some dogs i particularly liked.
I entered Nika ( 17 months) into the category,"Black Females Intermediate class" which is for dogs aged between 15-24 months..There were 39 dogs in this category which were divided into three groups of 13.Reason i did not enter her into youth class 9-18 months is that the handler arranged by my breeder had already made arrangements to show another female in this class ( KYRANA v. Bavaria (Hilo v. Nemesis - Jamaica v. Nemesis) she was the IDC winner in this group.
Baby,Puppy and Youth class categories are held on Saturday and Intermediate,Open,Working,Champion etc are held on Sunday.
My Handler Andrey, had 5 dogs to handle on Sunday (including Nika) and we were hoping the intermediate class (starting first) would be finished early, but it didn't and Nika was called back in the ring with the rest of the remaining dogs in her class while Andrey was in the next ring with another dog..It was a case of either getting disqualified for not making an appearence for the final of the group classification or someone had to take her in..I had no choice, so i went in the ring with her myself..No previous handling experience or phyisical fitness to run 3-4 rounds in the ring, i must have done well for not collapsing.Unfortuantely with my handling, Nika couldnt make it to the finals but she got an "excellent" grading and positive comments from the Judge Erika Szokol.
