If you have senior dogs, do you use joint supplements to treat or prevent joint problems? If yes, what do you use?
I have been using a Nature's Farmacy product, Phyto-Flex, for Jingles for about a year or so. Wondering what others are using.
I started using this as a preventative or maybe supportive is the better word. Jingles was not exhibiting any particular issues, but when she reached the age of 8 I just figured it was time to give her some support. Now, about two years later, she isn't as spry as she was at 8, but she isn't showing any particular joint problems.
With these types of supplements it is difficult to assess their effectiveness. We always search for something better. So, another question I have is "what is the best we can expect out of a joint supplement?"

My old guy is going on 12 (GSD) and the only supplement I give is raw bones. You can use Glucosame and Chondroitin bought at health food or pet stores but the natural source for both of these is bones. I knock on wood that he has not joint issues and he still jumps off my deck rather than taking the stairs (Ugh!!). There are many different supplements people swear by and the raw bones is mine.

Hey, great answer!! I give raw bones for other reasons, primarily as a treat and to clean teeth. I had not thought of your reason!

What age do you start your dogs on a joint supplement?
