I usually only have 1 or maybe 2 litters a year - this year is a rebuilding/transitional year adding new bloodlines. Mother nature conspired to have my 2 litters be only 3 weeks apart, the timing makes it a real challenge to do all that I do when raising the pups. I do not advocate this as a choice nor a plan - but after 20 years you learn to just "roll with it" *LOL* Its not going to be easy and it will be very hard work and believe me, by next may I am going to be more than ready for the Nubs-N-Buds DS Retreat in Austin!!!!
The News said that we here in VA had a 5.9 earthquake - but for Trinity Dobes it was a 10.0!!! which gifted us with 10 beautiful puppies.
Honestly it was the scariest thing I have been through in my adult life - we have a rambler and it felt like King Kong had ahold of the house and was shaking it back and forth very violently. Things flew off the shelves and out of cabinets - the sound was almost scarier than the shaking. It was very unerving for me and mom and unsettled all the dogs - !however it did not seem to even register with the ponies out in the field. Here in Orange we are about 15 miles from the epicenter of Mineral, and also close to the Nuclear power plant at Lake Anna. We've had two noticible aftershocks - but thank goodness its been calm today.
The earth quake happened right in the middle of Trinty Whelping - she started 8/23/11 @ 3 am and finished at 5 pm. 6 boys 7 girls, I unfortunately had 3 still born female pups. Even after 20+ years it never gets any easier to loose a puppy. I am extremly relieved and happy to be blessed with the 10 surviving pups - they are all a gift. 2 of the 10 are pretty small Little Ms Teal and Little Mr. Baby Blue - they only weigh 9 oz with normal birth weights closer to a pound or a bit over.
My pups are usually named Song titles and this was to be the "V" litter - but as suggested by our own PrettyFeetsMomma, this instead has to be an earthquake themed litter for the AKC registered names.
Here are my favorites suggested so far for the AKC Registered Names
Trinity’s Shake-Rattle-N-Roll
Trinity’s Rock My World
Trinity’s Shaken Not Stirred
Trinity’s All Shook Up
Trinity’s Rock-N-Roll
Trinity’s Shake Your Booty
Trinity’s Duck-N-Cover
Trinity’s Ring of Fire
Trinity’s Bust-A-Move
Keeping up with photos for 23 pups is going to be a challenge but I will do the best I can - Mom and babies are doing well so far.
