It's a shame, but it looks like the FB group Doberman Hub was shut down. I hope everyone ends up here.

Apparently it was all my fault - I was upset about our former forum owner bringing home her new puppy, bragging about him and everyone congratulating her on the purchase of her new doberman puppy.
A new doberman puppy that was bought from a breeder who did no health testing - who did not do any pedigree research or matching, did nothing but put two dogs together to produce puppies. This to me is a BYB and it makes me angry that someone who is educated and knowledgeable in the breed, is a owner and leader on a prominent social doberman community, would deliberately make the CHOICE to buy a puppy whose physical and mental health future is much more of a question mark than if they had purchased from a breeder who had done "something," anything to indicate they were doing more than just putting 2 dobes together.
I have a grand passion for this breed, and I do care where people buy their pups from because many who buy from a BYB 1st then call me looking for their next puppy to be the band aid on their heart, because the first puppy dies way too young. Or lives long but with a laundry list of health or temperament issues.
I've made it my personal mission to try and share my personal years of knowledge, to educate and mentor people about our breed.
So I posted a discussion topic on The FB HUB asking for some ideas and brain storming about what we should do when people make poor choices when buying their puppy. I was clear that the pups should never be criticized or be judged as being less because these puppies did not ask to be born - they deserve love and caring as much as any top prospect pup.
However, do we have a responsibility to say something when people make these poor buying choices? Do we have a responsiblity to remark that every puppy is cute and precious - but would you mind sharing why you chose to buy from a BYB? instead of supporting a breeder that was more responsible when deciding to breed.
I am afraid that the owner of the FB HUB page took my comments and questions personally - I did not realize that by her own admission, that she had bought 2 of her pups from what most would consider a BYB. She was insulted and her feelings hurt by what she viewed as criticism of her and attackof her pups. For that I am sorry, when I made my post I had no idea that would take it personal- but I am not sorry for asking the question.
How do we get the message out to people that this is a bad choice to make.
Should we question why they made this choice?
Should those that are members of these social networking groups be told that their leaders are not setting the best example for those that are new and just learning what the right way to go about buying a doberman really is?
If we don't are we condoning the purchase of BYB puppies and inferring to those new to the breed that theres nothing wrong and they can approach the same breeder for a puppy too?
Most people coming to forums and social networking sites are looking for advice and recommentations on purchase, training etc. What is our responsibility to these people? or is it not our problem?
I thought this would provoke some good brainstorming and discussion which would also effect mentoring and education.
When the leader of the FB HUB group said she was shutting it down - someone posted a statement that I whole heartedly agree with. It went something like this: You have the right to your opinion, you have the freedom to choose to purchase your puppy from whatever breeder you want - but you do not have the right to put your choices out there as acceptible and the correct or recommended way to go about buying a doberman puppy .
OH well - I am sorry that the FB page was shut down in order to end the discussion. Not talking about a subject never resolves the situation. I hope you guys will give some thought as to how those that consider them selves responsible doberman advocates should answer the questions above. Remember play nice - be respectible - this is a great educational opportunity!

gail i agree with what you have written. If people have made mistakes when purchasing their dogs then fine, we live and learn, but to know about the breed then buy of these people then its wrong.
is she was upset by this she clearly knew she was in the wrong:)
