I also believe its because the ears were cropped at such an early age! Gemma's ears were cropped at 13 weeks and we got her at 15 weeks... hers are so long too, so it took till she was about 10 months maybe 11! Saava's are standing nicely when they stand, but they only last about a day so far. I have them unposted today and they are standing nicely. I am having far more trouble with the backer rod and tape this time. That red tape is for 'shit'! so I am not using it anymore. The white zonas tape is much more reliable and so is the stretchy flesh colored tape I used last time. I am reordering that stuff. The red stuff slips up and causes the foam inserts to bend and its making the ears stand funny.... time to resort back to the old tried and true ugly white zonas porous tape! I hate that stuff.. but it works! I am also going to use the glue in foam EZ earz method as it worked really well too! His ears stand so nicely I think the Ez Earz method will work well with him and its what I think I am going to stick too.... no pun intended! ;D If you don't like it white, just get some vetwrap and put it over the posting, thats how i did itwith Aesa and Apollo. Comes in i don't know how many colors, but make sure don't wrap it to tide, just lose around then tap it with your hand to the ear. www.amazon.com/Gifted-Horse-Vet-Wrap/dp/B0002V47L0

I have seen that vet wrap at my local feed store and would do that if I was using the zonas tape. I hate the fact that the zonas tape pulls so much hair off and also you really need to use a solvent to get it off and I never liked using that solvent so often. If I use the Ez Earz method the foam inserts just fall out when the glue has lost its 'umph'... so its easy to just clean with alcohol and rub the glue out and then just reglue. If the Ez Earz method does not work sufficiently (its supposed to, even for Danes) I will of course revert to the zonas porous tape routine. Personally I like the old head gear unit's that they used to use back 'in the day' when I had my first Doberman. He wore that head gear for about a month or two and his ears stood perfectly after that. His were also done at 8 weeks just like Saava, but his were not as long back then. Gemma is the first ears I have had to tape/cone since back in that day. I have had 6 dobermans since then, but all were rescues and the two that were not, were about 5-6 months old when I got them and their ears were already standing!

To get Zonas tape or any other sportstape off, without pulling to much hair out, just soak it in babyoil or any other mineral oil for a bit and it will slide off without pulling hair out. Then clean with luke warm soapwater and alcohol afterwards and you good to go for the next posting. And every dog is different, some ears stay with 5 month and some need longer. Aesa was good to go with 5 month and Apollo needed 7-8 month.
