Countdown Puppies - Litter #1 Trinity Dobes
Posted Tue Jul 12, 2011 4:11 pm by TrinityDobes
Trinity's Long Gate Honey aka Jazmine was bred to Trinity's Guardian Angel and today is Day 37 or 39 in an average 63 day gestation. Pups can be whelped as early as day 58 or as late as day 65 and its still within the realm of normal. Usually at day 30 to 35, I am looking and looking and thinking DAMN she is not pregnant, and then around Day 40 to day 45 you can quit holding your breath and say with confidence that the breeding "took". Jazmine is tall girl and because she is at the top of the standard she has a long body - bitches are allowed to be 5% longer than tall. or almost 2 inches longer. you will see in the photos I am happy to report Jaz is looking very pregnant.
I took photos this am of Jaz for Katja wearing her fancy new show collar and leash. I purchased one matching show collar and leash set(thanks to a friendly contribution who was tired of seeing me show in mis-matched gear *LOL*) and then I won one set from Katja's Euro Dog Designs. So now Jaz and Lestat do not have to share!
So far things are progressing beautifully with Jazmine - totally normal except that her tolerance for the rough house play with the younger pups is not as high as before being bred. At this point we are pretty much home bodies except or walks once a week at the wonderful park in Culpeper. We will keep our paws crossed that things continue on blissfully normal - I will try and do photos again in about 10 days and then I will send a photo or two when I take her to be xrayed about day 55 or 56.
PS - the photo of two dogs is of Lestat and Raven each modeling their new show collars for Euro Dog Designs! Lestat is on the left and Jazmine is on the right as if you could miss that belly that even from the front is looking rather large lol

Kim I agree - she has always been an "easy" keeper....like me lol - but now that she is eating for 8 to 10 hehehehe I have bumped her food as the pregnancy has progressed - but "chubbola" is a pretty accurate statement at this point - wait til the next photo though - you will see a big change!

End of Week 7 Update - Jazmine is getting obviously heavier - she is sleeping a lot and she has no patience for the pups (1 year olds) constant nagging - play with me, play with me, play with me - saw her for the first time EVER - snap and growl at Raven - cheeky lil pup deserved it too - a week from today we will go to be xrayed and try and count how many pups there are.

Day I am alone - here at the house - the girls and I have gotten it down to a pretty good routine - last litter though I was alone here at the house - I had the webcam on and several people kept me company on Yahoo Messanger Video Conference!! that was great - I even got to take a little nap and Nellie could talk to me and say "Wake up Gail - Looks like she is starting to push again "!! that was the best help!

She looks to over weight to me, I would take some weight off her before i breed her. Shes cute fat but I like em kinda trim and muscley, is that a word? Oh well Liberace is looking good nice and trim not fat like the other dog, can he drive a car yet? Don't trust him backing up, they all say they can but non of them are good at it. Had a coon hound that could back up a car she was fat like your dog too. Oh well see ya! Von

ok - back on line - keeping it real and flashing back 10 years to some "old school" on-line experiences lol - so we are on dial up! but that is better than being off line -
Today Jazmine is day 55 to 57 (1st day bred) On average gestation is 63 days - but any time after day 58 "usually" the pups can be safely born after day 58. The longer the gestation, the bigger the pups and the more developed everyone will be.
Von I know Jaz looks fat - but if you could put your hands on her and look down over yer back - there is hardly any flesh or any fat over her back bone - I can feel every vertebral bump - and the same with her ribs - Its been hard ensuring she has enough condition, so post whelping when she does not want to eat that she does not get pulled too far down - this large a litter will be a huge pull on her body to meet her own needs and the demands of milk supply with all these guys pulling on her nursing - I always supplement when there are more than 8 pups - but still - its always a tight rope to have the bitch in good condition, not too thin, not too fat.
Here is a photo of jaz yesterday when we got home from the vet Day 57
here is a photo of the xray - all those little railroad track things are puppy spines

I am back among the living... sort of *lol* besides feeling like I was hit by a bus I am doing well -n Jaz is doing an amazing job looking after this HUGE family of 13 puppies - for a first time mom - she read the book! Thank goodness. We did loose the one little girl but what a blessing of great abundance to have everyone else come through in great condition - we are on the rotation schedule switching pups every hour today -
Thank you to my secretary Lisa on taking the over the telephone reports from the front line at the ER hospital!!!
I don't know who groaned louder me, the vet or Jaz when the "just to be sure we are done xray" revealed we had one more puppy in there!
So the adventure continued after poor Lisa had gone to bed!!! another shot of oxytocin was given and last but not least Lucky #14 - a brown girl born at 4:20 am!!
we have a total of 4 girls - 2 black/rust and 2 brown/rust (I am keeping one of these brown girls)
we have a total of 9 boys - 7 black/rust adn 2 brown/rust
I was totally shocked and beyond pleased with the arrival of brown pups its been over 10 years since my last brown puppies!! it was such a wonderful surprise! here is a photo of the whole litter taken this am
and for those on FB I am uploading photos pretty www.trinitydobermans.com/Jaz_Puppy_Photos.php
