The Demon Chronicles
Demon vom haus Do’Urden
The Chronicle of what we know about Demon before and after his mysterious disappearance.
Demon was born on October 24, 2009. He was originally retained as a show/working prospect. His breeder decided to let him go to, a prospective buyer who lived in Austin, TX and who at the time had been thoroughly checked out. This prospective buyer was a very active participant in a Doberman forum community, extremely knowledgeable in BSL and wrote and spoke like a responsible, knowledgeable dog owner. This prospective buyer was vouched for by other well respected, knowledgeable Doberman owners on the forum.
Placing good Doberman puppies with good buyer prospects is usually not about the money – but rather about choosing the right buyer that will be willing to commit to training and showing the puppy in order for the puppy realize his full potential. Do’Urden very graciously decided to enter into a “trial” co-ownership agreement with the buyer with very specific terms and conditions that had to be met before a final purchase agreement would be in effect. These co-ownership agreements are usually win/win for everyone involved. Failure to meet the training/showing commitments would cause the “trial” agreement to be cancelled and Demon would be returned to his breeder. AKC papers, microchip information would remain in Do’Urden’s name until such time as the contractual terms were met and the agreement would be finalized.
This prospective buyer did have APBTs, females and males, but her personal references vouched for their level of training and the buyer’s level of expertise. Many people who show and trial live with multiple male dogs in their households very successfully – its all in the routine and who is allowed out with whom in the yards.
Demon was sent to Austin to start the trial co-ownership period in February 2010. At first things appeared to be going well – but it soon became apparent that this person was not going to be able to fulfill the commitment made to Do’Urden Kennel to train and show Demon. The person admitted that they were not going to be able to do the training nor the showing they had promised to do – so both parties – Do’Urden and the prospective buyer agreed to end the trial agreement and that Demon would be returned to Do’Urden Friday evening July 16th, 2010.
Two hours before the agreed upon pick up time – Do’Urden recieved an email – not a telephone call but an email advising that Demon was MISSING! The email stated that the boyfriend let a couple of the dogs out in the back yard while she was at the store, and when she returned – Demon was not there. She did not know if he somehow got out of the 6 foot high privacy fence – or if he alone was stolen from the fenced back yard. Her email stated that she was running out to go searching and would be in contact later – from that moment until today, there has been no word, nor any communication from this person.
There were no missing flyers posted in the neighborhood
Animal Control was not notified that Demon was missing
The local Shelter was not notified that Demon was missing
The Police were not notified that Demon was missing
Demon was micro-chipped yet no lost/ stolen notice was filed with Avid
There was no lost/ stolen notice placed anywhere on the internet by this person
In the face of this lack of response on the ground in Austin, the Doberman community immediately went on the alert and sprung into action to help get the word out so that Demon could be found and recovered.
Do’Urden and the Friends of Demon immediately notified Animal Control, the police, the local shelters, the local Doberman Rescues, Avid, Pet Amber Alert faxed out lost/stolen notices to every vets office within a 25 mile radius, we posted notices about his disappearance on almost every Doberman and APBT community on the internet, started a FB page to Help Bring Demon Home, posted on Craigslist, posted an Amber Alert and contacted a Pet Detective.
All the while Do’Urden kept reaching out to the person who had Demon when he mysteriously disappeared from that backyard in Austin – as they say the silence in response was deafening. There have been rumors about what really happened to this innocent dog; killed by the pit bulls, sold for drug money, stashed with a friend. There have been leads and whispers but nothing concrete to solve this mystery.
Friends of Demon will never forget he is missing. We all check the PetFinder, scrutinizing every brown male dobe close to Demon in age. We continue to repost lost notices on Craigslist, and post on his FB wall too.
