Peggy Sue is afraid of the water , we decide it to drag her in the pool wishing she would overcome the fear but ended up making it worse , my son was the one commissioned to do it because they always play rough and i don't want her to associate me with that experience , but now every time we train near the pool she acts shy and pull on the leash , I'm not using the prong while training in the property because she has been really good without it lately . Does anyone know how to deal with this ?, should i try to force it again ? or just accept she is not an aquatic gal ?

Im guessing she maybe not into swimming Day. Kora loves water whereas Cayden and Cass will run miles even if i just turn the hose on.

Personally, Day, obedience is obedience. As long as you are not forcing her into the water, she should still be obedient around it with you! Go back to simple basics near the pool, rebuild the confidence and reassurance that you will not throw her in it. Just don't let HER decide she doesn't have to be obedient when she chooses... Good luck! :-)

If your near a coast line or even a stream, you can try to introduce her using a long lead and not really encouraging her but trying to get her in by mistake? hahahaha as if she just happens to run into it while playing with the kids. Sort of a "indirect leading" possibly using a toy or ball or anything that she enjoys and is motovated by. I used to pop my little guys in when they were about 5 to 6 months old and walk them in till the water came up to their withers. Then continue that till they got a little comfortable. Then bring them over their heads till they began paddling, I used a broom stick to force their paws under the water line and they'd catch on quickly that the stroke under the water was easier then the thrashing paddle on top. Dobermanns can be excellant swimmers, they have the reach and drive and when in great condition the stamina. try the stream or river scene, this way the people and dog are on the same level ground and start in by just getting her paws wet and slowly do more and more. Another dog might loosen the situation up too. Good luck and remember when you run into stubborness or her being a little fearfull less talk and more standing still with trying to pass along a calming energy and encouraging instead of a command is the right way to introduce what your trying to accomplish. When all fails then "fool them" they are a smart breed but they are just dogs. "out smart em up".........Von

She goes in the small kids pool, will go in the sea anywhere really, Cayden will run and stop as soon as he feels the water on his paw. Both were taken to the beach as their first trips after vaccinations but still so different,

Great advice Von , I'll definitely try the stick to keep her paws underwater next time she accidentally falls in the pool in the meanwhile we'll try on the beach .

Both of mine LOVE the water. Pools to puddles. I started them at the beach where the water deepens gradually. It was easier with the puppy because he followed Jewel in and never noticed he was in the water til he was actually swimming.
