what do you think is a good weight for an older dobe? Cass used to be pretty heavy but has lost a lot of weight recently. In a way i think this is a good thing as she doesnt have a lot of weight to carry around.
she is sitting at 58lb/26 kilos at the moment and looks OK. her hip bones show a bit more than i would like but nothing more.
What weight would you be looking to get on her.?
thanks in advance

In my opinion, whether a senior or not, what to look for in a healthy weight is the same. You don't want to see the hip bones protruding, you want to keep that abdominal tuck, albeit a senior will not have such a tight one. And you also want to see a healthy layer of fat. Pinch the skin between thumb and forefinger at the end of the rib cage along her side. You should be able to feel the layer of fat. It is said it should be the width of tissue paper but honestly, who the heck could feel that. I measure it by overall appearance and energy levels. If she looks healthy and is not too fat and not too thin they I would stick with what you are doing. It is a whole package thing, not just one item to look at. Oh, and please don't buy into the "senior" foods. All they have done is remove the protein and added carbs. If you find her packing it on a bit, then just cut back her rations a little. But obviously this is not the case for you right now.
