OMG! Poor baby Drew! No idea at all what she cut herself on? Were you home when it happened? How terrible to have two bad injuries so close together... Must have been expensive too. Those ER vets aren't cheap.

Those ER vets aren't cheap. Yes Ingrid we were home, Drew was outside with Ray, he was working in his garage both times, which makes me think it is something in his garage (he dosn't agree) and yes it is getting expensive we have spent over $1500 so far.

Thats a bad wound Sharon, it was stitched nicely and should heal nicely too! I would hunt down what did the damage, was there a blood trail? For it to happen twice would make me tear the garage apart or close the door and she NEVER goes in there again. If you must "kick Rays butt" !! Keep it clean and ofcourse away from Doctor Homer he means well but he'll ruin it!! She's young and will be fine, very tuff lil girl! Antibacterial soap very lightly applied and NO hydro/perox! I've had good luck with plain old VitE for years and I used it on Pudg since his operation, I think it helped. His wasn't as straight and even as Drews so the VitE might very well help. I'd use it every other day/night! When ever her lamp shade is on hahaha! Poor Drew!!! and nurse Sharon too. Von

I'd use it every other day/night! When ever her lamp shade is on hahaha! Poor Drew!!! and nurse Sharon too. Von Von Doctor Homer and the Basset are living upstairs and Drew is living downstairs as she is not to be climbing the stairs. Also she wouldn't stay quiet if they were together, but keeping her quiet is so hard to do, geez she is not to climb stairs but jumps around all excited over the least little thing. Our regular vet is a big believer in aloe vera so when we went in the next day to get the bandage removed from the surgery he sent us home with a spray bottle of it which I have been lightly spraying the area with. I do have some vit E that I purchased when you suggested it to treat the tooth mark on Dellon's head, so when the stitches come out I will use it on her to minimize the scar. When this happened the EV vet gave us the option of transferring her on to the University of Guelph to have the muscle that had been cut reattached. She said it may not work and could rot in there and mean more surgery and possible bone infection, or she could just cut the piece that was dangling by a piece of fat and she may be left with a slight limp. The decision had to be made quickly and I decided to chance the slight limp rather than the complications that could arise from trying to reattach it. I am very happy to say she has no hint of a limp But she does have a small indentation where she is missing that piece of muscle. We scoured the garage again and the yard when the snow melted on the weekend to see if there had been something under the snow we couldn't see before. The only thing we could come up with was a pieced of steel corner trim on the garage that is right at the step down to the back yard where they run by like lightning had been bent and was sharp. Ray hammered it flat with a rubber hammer so it is flat to the wall now. But Dellon runs there too and has never been cut, but Drew is also still in the clumsy stage. I am not positive on this so we will be on the watch yet and when Drew is on the go again we will be following her closely to see if she is going somewhere we haven't looked closely at. It will be nice when she is rid of the dam cone, we had to replace the one in the picture with the biggest one they had as she could reach the bottom of the wound I also will be glad to be back in my own bed too, I have a cot set up in the rec room for Drew and I and have been down there with her since the first night when it was bandaged I had to keep checking her toes all night to make sure they were still warm.

I hope Ray found the problem and your done with the danger. I understand the task of nursing and disrupting the normal activities!! Just being able to take Pudg to exercise is a relief and to let the air get to the wound . I'm down to making the smallest wrap that just covers his hook just so he can't lick the area. Hopefully a few more days and that will be completely healed over. The Aloa is always a good treatment and I've used it alot since being in Fla. I have huge plants in tubes in front of my house! Remember the area needs to dry out also it can't stay moist all the time with creams and ointments. She'll start healing quickly once the stitches are gone! Sorry bout the cot, not good for the back!! Hope your both better soon. Von.
