Request for donations
For confirmation of possible bio-marker for DCM
As many of you know, we have been trying very hard to get this pilot project started, and primary with support and donations from organizations. Personally, I have sent forward several applications, most of these haven’t even responded, we do though have very strong support from:
* IDEXX, who will not only supply materials, but also personnel in connection with sampling and testing. IDEXX is also the company, which have supported the similar testing done in the UK. IF these results hadn’t shown possibilities, I’m next to sure, that they would not support our project here in Denmark as well.
* Full support and cooperation from “Dyrehospitalet CitySyd” who are giving us the location, and additional personnel in connection with control, sampling, testing plus shipping of possible full blood samples for storage.
As this Pilot Project also contain additional health tests, like eye examination and Holter examination, not to forget the full blood sampling …
* Dyrehospitalet CitySyd has agreed to make eye examinations on all dogs that do not already have had this test done, and at a very favorable price.
* Holter test have been agreed to be made through ALBA, procedures by Steen Grøndahl, and at a favorable price
Still, these costs needs to be financed – We personally had hoped to be able to donate the “income“ from our last litter, unfortunately this is at the moment not possible, as we haven’t been able to sell all offspring from this litter. In other words, had we been able to sell these puppies, this request would not have been set forward.
Why, the additional health tests – yes, we could easily leave these out, but when the dogs are available on the day, why not do the testing … to that these test results will hopefully be used in connection with our additional upcoming projects, like:
* Heritage of the eye disease phtvl/phpv
* Genome research into the breed Dobermann
* Primary gene causing DCM in Dobermann
No individual results will be published or shared – only the very small group of persons connected to the research will be informed of the identity of the participating dog’s results. Only owners of the participating dogs will receive a written test result of the tests their dog(s) might undergo.
Evaluation of test results from the possible biomarker will be done by Prof. Sonia Garzia – Ancestor research will be done by Prof. Sonia Garzia in cooperation with Bitten Jönsson. Publication of the final result and hopefully confirmation of this biomarker, should take place approx. 6 months after the upstart of the Pilot Project, and paper will be produced by Prof. Sonia Garzia in cooperation with Bitten Jönsson.
Our goal in regard to possible donations for this Pilot Project is EURO 4.000,- which should be an appropriate amount to cover all the above mentioned costs. The project is a nonprofit project hence none of the participating parties will obtain any form of fee. A specific account for donations has been opened, but only for direct wire transferals – Payment instructions can be obtained through contact to Bitten Jönsson – e-mail jotunheims@hotmail.com –
The person(s) and/or organization which contribute will be mentioned in the final paper and equally to INDEXX, Dyrehospitalet CitySyd and Steen Grøndahl/ALBA along with a personal thank you to all the dogs, their owners, for participation in the project.
As we hope to start the Pilot Project up in January – final date has not yet been selected – we are so to speak in a hurry to obtain donations for the full project. Should we not be able to raise any donations, or far too little, we will have to size down the overall project. Never the less, and with reference not only to the results of the past, but also the results obtain in the UK, we will go ahead with the project, whether this merely should contain the biomarker or the full project.
Please support this research – thank you.
