So we were invited to Chattam for our Grandsons Birthday and he asked if we would bring Drew so he could walk her through his neighborhood. He would really like Drew to get to know him well before she gets too big, so we decided to leave Dellon at home to keep the Basset company cause when he and Drew are together they tend to play with each other rather than Drew playing with Matthew. I gated Dellon and the Basset downstairs like always and when we got home the Basset was in the rec room but Dellon was upstairs!! He had jumped the gate into the living room, but decided rather than jump his way back out of the living room he would dig his way out......we no longer have much carpet left on the steps......

Thats a very smart dog looking out for your safety!!! I noticest that same step in a older photo and remember that the rug was "frayed" and "lifting" on that step!! I didn't think much of it back then but obviously Dellon (aka Homer the Genius) DID!! You could have been seriously injured on that step and the dog knew it!! If I'm not mistaken Nellie trained that litter to recognize faulty stair coverings (extra 12.50) BUT he may have reacted to some strange noises because Dede trained him to "attack" that same colored rug!!! (I know their colored blind but I'm nearing the end here) Sooooooo all that said you've learned a lesson!!! If the bitch goes the "Boy" does too!!! HA! poor Bassett Hound! Von

You are right on the lesson learned Von...if the bitch goes the boy will be going too!! The Basset will likely enjoy the peace and quiet also It use to seem that Dellon preferred home as he never relaxed anywhere else, but then Bree was top dog and for her to go on her own with us didn't bother him, but now Dellon is top dog and I guess you don't leave the top dog home lol!!

Did you leave a raw beef knuckle with him? Did you run him out prior to leaving? Possibly take him for a car ride prior to leaving? If the answer is no to the above shame on you!! An intact male beginning to reach maturity will get very aggrivated if left without being preped to be left! All n all I'd really get down on him for the destruction and keep a peice of rug to "explain" that your not happy with the Boy! Von

well i think he was just tired of the old carpet and was helping you to get rid of it. woodfloors are so much better and easier to clean. Aesa and Apollo were big helpers with our old carpet here too and i'm very thankfull that i could have got rid of it then , so don't say Dellon had a bad day, he was just mommy's little helper

Von Dellon had been out for a good bush run prior to our leaving and had spent some time playing in the yard. I thought of trying to tire both out so Dellon would settle at home and Drew would nap in the car for the ride to Chattam.
Tina the carpet has needed replacing for sometime now it is old and ugly but we can't agree on if it will be real wood or laminate and what color, but now Dellon has put a fire under our butts to make the dam decision!!
