Perfect time to add a few caps of Apple Cider Vingar (Braggs) to their gallon if you have dogs that don't like it. Ofcourse never let your dog take in large amounts of water EVER! Not before meals and certainly not afterwards. My dogs always had access to water but hot weather does call for moderation. Von

Most people just never think about how much water a dog will gulp down while swimming, etc. Yeah, this is pretty scary to think about, especially in the weather we all seem to be having lately! Just be alert to your dogs behavior and look out for the danger signs folks.

It is a good article and I think that you are right most don't think about this as being a danger. It gets super hot here so I only keep so much water in the bowl and that way I know how much he has taken in. Thanks for the article

I use a shallow pan filled with water 5"deep and have Pudg stand in it after getting heated up from outside. I also soak a towel with cold water and wipe his face and chest down. The quickest way to cool a dog down is through their foot pads and head and chest. Get them immobil and their breathing patterns slowed. The tile floor is a big help in my house too. Von

I am not underplaying this topic but I guess my thought is that every article on it is the same story. So my thoughts become..how many documented cases of this has there been? Is there any documented cases saying how much water is too much? I have problems with this only because of my own heat experiences and water requirements. I can only assume the amount of water would have to be astronomical. Anyone else have any ideas or thoughts on this?
It scares me to limit dogs water consumption. I do limit the immediate water consumption after high output of energy or high intensity work but I don't like to limit water intake during a normal hot weather day. Just thoughts..anyone else?.

The concerns are for heavy gulpers and the dogs that don't have common "dog sense", the kind that over due all kinds of activities. I knew some like that and they need some moderating to keep them safe from themselves ! There are novice owners who may think a big drink after exercise is appropriate. There are plenty of new owners that don't have basic skills for moderating dogs. My dogs have always had access to clean fresh water when they're not at a high activity level. Von

Great INFO....I have often taken the water dish up when afraid they are over doing it......I guess this is one time my excessive worry may have been for good reason
