I have just learned that the Penn Vet Working Dog Center www.PennVetWDC. org
is making plans to collect and analyze genetic, behavioral, training and
physical data and integrate the latest scientific information to improve the
success and well-being of detection dogs that are so vital to our national
security.
The Center will open, Tuesday, September 11, 2012 on the University of
Pennsylvania' s Grey's Ferry campus in Philadelphia.
The Center is searching for puppies to enroll in the Puppy Foundation
training program which will open this Fall. Breeders who have puppies with
a lineage of proven titles in working lines which include hunt or search and
detection are potential candidates. They should complete the linked survey
below.
All of the pups will have foster families and will not be kenneled during
their first year, during advanced training, or at any point in their life.
Medical care will be provided by the University of Pennsylvania' s School of
Veterinary Medicine for the duration of their time in our program. All
training conducted will employ positive reinforcement methods only. All
dogs will be tracked throughout their career.
By filling out the application at www.surveymonkey.com/s/BreederForm
breeders are not committing to participating in the program and Penn Vet is
not committing to your puppy's inclusion. It is only an effort to see if
the pup is a good potential fit. If you have any questions, contact Sarah
Griffith, Assistant Director, at 215-898-2211.
We should share this information with our clubs and breeders.
