*Holter (not on site but an option for a free one within 60 days of National, unit with directions shipped to owners at no charge) Results of echocardiograms and ECG provided to owners on site; holter results after analysis. *****ALL RESULTS ARE STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL* ****
HOW: Information on how to sign up prior to the National for a time slot for FREE heart screening for your Doberman(s) will be announced in upcoming weeks.
WHY: These veterinary cardiologists are dedicated as a team to researching issues and problems associated with Doberman cardiomyopathy. They are willing to give their own time to provide us with this comprehensive, CONFIDENTIAL screening clinic at no cost to owners.
Dr. Gordon, who will speak on the subject Thursday, October 3 at Health Night, will discuss their study efforts further: Use of blood tests (biomarkers) has been shown to be promising in terms of identifying Dobermans with a high risk of having DCM based on an echocardiogram, and would be a less expensive first screening tool for use in a breeding program. If we can validate these results it could help Doberman owners and breeders selectively identify which Dobermans should undergo an echocardiogram in any given year.
