First I would like to state that this is not my recipe but one that has been around a good long time and it works. I thought it was well worth sharing.
Satin Balls
10 lbs hamburger meat (cheapest kind)
1 large box of Total cereal
1 large box oatmeal
1 jar of wheat germ
1 1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/4 cup of unsulfured molasses
10 raw eggs AND shells
10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
pinch of salt
Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meatloaf.
Divide into 10 quart bags and freeze
Thaw as needed and feed raw!!
Satin balls are traditionally used for those dogs that have stopped eating. This seems to give them a kick start back into having an appetite. This recipe has also been used to simply putting weight back on a dog that has lost is for whatever reasons. This can be added to their food but you will have to work out how much and keep an eye on their weight gain to know which amount to give is correct.
This can be used as an every day meal, with or without kibble. However, you need to keep a close eye on their weight gain to ensure they are not getting too much.
