Your S/A would be out of Luthor decendents, I'd guess? The Euro breedings from either Baron Nike or Gino or Jivago? Those three were the most used dogs in Europe at their time and other than sporting lines are pretty much in all pedigrees. My current dog has all three in his pedigree and other than Gino the others are up close both are grandsires. What dogs are in your dogs backline? Von Yes a matter fact his dam is a Catriel daughter. His sire is American. The other is Baron Nike bred on the sire's side with American on the dam. The biggest difference that I see between the 2, other than the obvious physical attributes is simply the DESIRE to please. The Euro is very quick to learn and respond. Although a very pleasant dog, does not go out of way to make friends. He has a very "scrutinizing" manner about him with strangers. Very calm but not demanding attention. The other is totally the opposite. He has never met a stranger and honestly feels everyone was put on this earth for his gratifications.

I personally prefer SOME European dobes simply because I find the N/A's are becoming this fragile and delicate little flower and I don't see that as what a doberman should be. I am very picky as to what European lines I will be choosing from for various reasons. I don't like the rectangle look with no tuck at all, not do I like a bitch to look like a dog. I have been lucky enough to find someone here in Canada that is breeding European dobes and they are stunning. She will be adding S/A lines to her Euro lines, so that will be interesting to see. She and I have very similar ideas of what we think of as an 'ideal' doberman. I think you are absolutely right. I don't remember who stated 'speed boat fronts" but that is very true, in my humble opinion. I have a preference for a dog with substance although many of the S/A dogs do present an appealing profile. Unfortunately my Euro boy is one with little tuck-up but since I do nothing other than enjoy their companionship, I can be a little less discerning. It is ironic that the S/A is far more "elegant" in appearance, not necessarily more delicate, and yet I find it amazing how the general public (when I am out with both) appear to be drawn to a heavier dog? I should also add that neither, as mentioned before are OVERSIZE with both being slightly under 28". BUT again there is a big difference in their pysical as well as psychlogical makeup. I have posted a pic of my S/A on the First pic thread and will attempt to get a better pic for the other to post!
