The idea here is not to pull the ears down too tightly. Also, this method will allow the ears to remain taped for a good deal of time. Every few days you need to remove the zip tie and clean the ears as moisture will collect in them over time.
Once the teething stage is done, there should no longer be a need to retape, but if you should see the ears start to rise again, then retape for approx 2 weeks before allowing them to remain untaped again.
