So it's been running through my head about me wanting another Doberman. I've always said I want a female, black/rust.....stating I want a female because of Samson being here. I don't want to limit my options just to females because I may fall in love with a male lol but I know most people say "You can't have male Dobermans with other males." Samson is very laid back and has been neutered but I worry that if I were to get a male puppy everything would be great until the male started maturing and testing his dominance with Samson. And I just couldn't do the "crate and rotate" thing....lol The question is those of you with multiple males: How do you handle your males and if any issues when did they start?

Me too lol I really don't want to limit myself on sex and color because I could find my dream dog and it be the total opposite of what I thought I wanted LMAO I love male Dobermans...they are just goofy mush balls but have that "oomph" to make them excellent deter dogs....

You know Kia, till Lilly got added to our family, we had ONLY EVER had males (my choice - cause in all honesty I do prefer males) .... but having said that I thoroughly enjoy having her around .... she is the most loving dog I've ever had!! A real kisser the sneaks on the bed in the middle of the night for loves and hugs and she'll cuddle right up to the back of me ...... We have one of each, and I would swop either for the world!!!

We have multiple males (3) and a female, our female and male puppy get along with everyone. Our two adult males got along for several months and then turned on each other, both are neutered.
They can't be together anymore even on walks, so they are rotated in and out of their crates, fortunately we have 2 1/2 acres and it is separated into two areas, but with four Dobermans and having to keep two separated at all times can be a pain.
So now we are waiting to see what happens as the male puppy grows up and if any friction will ensue or not.
Just my opinion and I'm sure plenty of people out there have two males that do get along, but If I only had a male and was thinking about getting a second I would get a female, why even take the chance.

No expert here but have had 2 males and dealing with it again. All were nuetered but no problems, we do have occasional skirmishes but no true fights, but Duke did get jax's ear for blood the other night. Can't tell you what to do and both are problem children but wouldn't trade out anything here.

I would tend to think that the personality ongoing to be more of a factor than anything. Even if u get a female..a very dominant one would be just as much an issue. Just gotta find a laid back less dominant one an cross ur fingers. Lol

not got 2 males but got 2 bitches and they have a good go at each other at least once a week.
Cayden on the other hand was great with all males until he was about 18 months. Now its hit or miss with him if he will play or fight.

You need to be a dominant figure in the household or you have almost no chance to have harmony. If you can find 2 subordinant pups to grow together with the handler as boss then you have shot. If theres 4 to 5 years age difference you may get lucky but this is an old topic and theres really only way to go and its common knowledge. As for Kia I think one of those lil pigs would be perfect then on Christmas you can go to Grandma's and have a huge Pork Dinner every year!!! Problem solved over a good meal! Von.

To answer your question, we always have had a male household, we always brought them in as a puppy, and we raised them the way we want it, they play until they are about 6-8 months after that I don't want to have it especial not in the house, spend lots of time with them seperated, so that they discover the world on their own, without the other ones arround them, o yes we do some good hikings with them together, but I always learn them to have their own ball or biting jug. I won't accept that they try to steal it from eachother, cause that is often the case why they want to fight. I think when you have a multiple dog household, for me it does not matter if they are males or females you have to raise them and tell them what you want, we won't accept fights and they know, they do respect eachother a lot that is what we notice. You always have to think if that is what you really wants multiple dogs, cause it is not easy to have a few. When I just met my husband we had 5 dogs, 2 dutchies, 1 mall, 2 dobes, one of the 5 was a female, wich was the worst of all ;D I must say we brought it back to 2 right now, and we like it that way, its more relaxed, the mall goes with my daughter when she leaves the house, the others died of old age. How more dogs you have it will be more diffecult to give them the attention they need. I did took another puppy when Yordi was 6 years of age, my husbands dog is now 4 years and zabar is 6, if it succeed depend on the character of the dog, and on yourself. You really have to think of this is what you want, and if you could handle it, it ask discipline of yourself, and lots of trainingtime So my experience with mutltiple dogs in general is that it is lots of work.
