1 container of chicken livers (1.25lbs) pulverized in blender together with 2 eggs - egg and shells 1tspn garlic powder 5 cups old fashioned oats ground to flour in blender
Mix all ingredients together and spread out on non stick cookie sheet. Bake at 225F for 55 minutes. Cut into squares ...... We call it crack cocaine for dogs. So give it a try if liver doesn't give your dog the squirts!! They're great ask me, I've actually tasted them .....

The chicken livers aren't as rich as calf or beef liver, so Hawk might be ok with these.
Do you put the egg shells in the blender with the liver? (just thinking it would pulverize them better in the blender then I can with my hands?)
Thank you Cathy!

Yep, what I do is first pulverize the liver up, then throw in the eggs that I've squashed with my hands and turn on the blender for a bit longer to smash up the shells till they're tiny - add the garlic powder to mix through with the wet stuff.

can't wait to try these! this maybe a stupid question but do you use raw eggs? in with the mix? and how thin do you spread the mix on the baking tray?
My dogs go nuts for sardines - I wonder if you could do something similar just replace the liver with the sardines and it would still bake ok?
Great receipe

Raw eggs about 1/4" thick and I think sardines are a GREAT IDEA .... next time I'll be trying that one out. I keep them in the freezer - no wastage at all ..... I keep them in sandwich bags - 1 sandwich bag lasts 2 training sessions at handlers classes that are an hour long

Thats good to know, I dont use ALOT of treats for training purposes, I try for the most part to use positive reinforcement/praise as a reward, but just as treats or something special for her this sounds wonderful !

We work here on a similar basis, and only use the bait at handlers classes or in the ring - Rex is probably the world's best free baiter ... now Lil ... she's another story all together .... greedy as they come - but that's good when we're training for shows, because she is VERY ALERT for that bait being shown - ears and tail up ALL THE TIME!!

How much sardines would you try to use though? This would need a little tweeking to accomodate for the moisture needed for the oats, but I know my guys would love both flavors.
If anyone tries it with sardines, PLEASE make notes for us!!!

Pam, one would probably need to add some water to the sardines and throw them in the blender - I would use about a lb of sardines on the 5 cups and add liquid (water or chicken broth) to that to make it look like the consistency of a lb of blue berries that have been crushed ....

I love this recipe beause it is so easy - and I plan to try both flavors - and thats good advice Cathy about adding the extra water or chicken broth. Our Dollar General Store, here in town, has really awesome sales on sardines. I don't particulary like any fish -but my dogs think anything fishy is very worthy of their utmost attention lol
