Diva, we ultimately each do for our dogs what we think is right. However we sometimes have to go back to the drawing board and change our approaches. I had to do that with Rex on a number of occasions and we've managed to work things out rather nicely, after I had some good advice from others. I realise, had I proceeded at my own pace and with my own train of thought we'd still have been "banging our heads" against a brick wall ..... having said that though, it would seem that with all your years of experience and expertise you don't need input from others. I'm so sorry I voiced my opinion. I wish you much joy and success with your endeavours with both Gemma and Saava .... I know that ultimately your guys will work for you, and you'll reap the fruits from whatever you put into their training .....

Ultimately we each do what we think is right for our dogs and ourselves... getting feedback like yours is always welcome Cathy... Nothing that YOU have ever said is unwanted or unwarranted information. I appreciate your input and feedback because your heart is in the right place. I will concur that sometimes we have to reassess what we are doing for each and every dog because they are all individuals. I really THOUGHT we were going to be able to do Schutzhund w/ Gemma but we have had to 'trim our sails' there because of the reality that the only club that offers the regular training that one needs for this particular sport, is over 100 miles away. I was very gung ho when we first got Gemma and she was too.. but the time we would have had to invest in just driving to and from the club for training was just not possible. I was so excited about the prospect of training her in that sport, but the logisitics were just not possible for our particular life here. So we have changed our plans for that sport and will be accepting that we can do obedience and could even perhaps do agility if either dog has a will and a 'interest' in that, but the really exciting sports like Mondio or Schutzhund are just too far away from us for it to be feasible! So we adjusted the 'goals' to fit the resources we have close to us! Plans do not always turn out as we think they will when we first set upon something... so adjustments are made and we proceed along accordingly!

Diva, so glad you got it all figured out .... working with these guys can be as much fun, as it can be frustrating. As you say, its all about finding out what triggers them ..... in our case Lilly is a frisbee queen and Rex LOVES the "burlap bunny" ..... they do their show conformation and ob work for me but ultimately know that they get rewarded by Dave pulling out their favourite toys afterwards. It really doesn't matter what we do with them, as long as everyone is having a good time, and the dogs got to bed satisfied afterwards!!! Best of luck with all your endeavours!!!!
